Vintage Yashoda & Baby Krishna Oleograph Trade Label | P. Ramratan Radhakisan, Amritsar India
This vintage oleograph mill label was produced for P. Ramratan Radhakisan of Amritsar, India, likely used to identify and market textiles in the early-to-mid 20th century. The chromolithograph print depicts a beloved scene from Krishna devotional lore: Yashoda, seated in traditional sari attire, milking a garlanded white cow and squirting a stream of milk into the mouth of baby Krishna, shown nearby with a radiant golden halo. The composition is framed by an ornate gold border with mosaic-tile floral corner medallions and bold lettering reading “MADE IN U.S.A.” along both sides, a common feature on labels produced for the Indian export textile trade.
