The scene is rendered with the characteristic fine line precision of 19th century steel engraving: figures on the riverbank in the foreground, a pavilion and ruined Mughal architecture emerging from dense tree cover at left, sailing vessels and a moored boat on the calm river, and the distant skyline of Agra stretching across the horizon.
Although purchased in India, this plate is likely extracted from Views in India, China, and on the Shores of the Red Sea by Robert Elliott, one of the most celebrated illustrated topographical works on Asia published in the mid-19th century.
