This delicate vintage Chinese hairpin showcases genuine metal filigree artistry in its purest form. The flowerhead is built from fine coiled silver wire, layered into multiple tiers of looped petals that create remarkable depth and texture, finished with a small cluster of raised silver beads at the center representing the flower’s stamen. A single fine link chain extends from the bloom, terminating in a faceted jade leaf drop that sways gently with movement — the hallmark feature of Chinese buyao “step shake” ornaments.
The long tapering pin shank is engraved with floral and vine motifs on a textured ground. The back of the filigree flower confirms authentic wirework construction and casting, a technique requiring considerable skill and patience.
Although this piece is stamped on the reverse with the Chinese characters 足銀 (“pure silver”), this appears to be a base-metal alloy that mimics the look of silver.
